Short answer: Volcanic sand exfoliates by mechanical friction: particles help detach surface cells as the product is moved across wet skin. The outcome depends on particle size and shape, concentration, lubrication, pressure and repetition. Gentle, occasional polishing may improve smoothness; hard scrubbing can disrupt the barrier. “Microtears” is not a standardized cosmetic diagnosis, but abrasion and irritation are real.

How particle-based polishing works

The stratum corneum naturally sheds corneocytes. A scrub accelerates removal by creating friction between particles, formula, fingers and skin.
